Why registration matters
Using a name in the market is not the same as owning it. In Iran, the reliable way to secure exclusive rights in a trademark is to register it for the goods and services you trade in. A registration gives you a clear legal basis to stop others using the same or a confusingly similar mark, to record licences, and to work with customs, platforms and distributors with confidence.
For foreign businesses the question is often one of timing. Brands sometimes discover that a distributor, an agent or an unrelated party has already filed their name in Iran. Filing early, ideally before products reach the market or partners are appointed, is the simplest protection against that risk.
What we do for you
- Review the results of the trademark search and confirm the mark is worth filing
- Agree the classes and draft a precise specification of goods and services
- Prepare the application and the supporting documents you need to sign
- File the application and send you the official filing details
- Monitor examination and respond to any objection raised by the examiner
- Watch the application through publication and report the outcome to you
Throughout the process you deal with one attorney who knows the file. We explain each document before you sign it and tell you in advance when we need something from you.
Word marks, logos and combined marks
You can register a mark consisting of words, a logo, or both. Each choice protects something slightly different. A word mark protects the name itself regardless of the lettering, while a logo registration protects the particular design. Many brand owners file the word mark first and add the logo when the design is settled. We advise on the combination that gives you the broadest practical protection for your budget.
Documents and information we will ask for
To prepare the application we need the applicant's full legal name and address, a clear representation of the mark, and the goods and services you want to cover. Foreign applicants will also need to sign a power of attorney so that we can act on their behalf. We tell you exactly which formalities apply to your case and help you arrange them efficiently.
If you have not yet run a search, start with the free instant check and then ask us for the comprehensive search. Filing without searching is possible but rarely wise.
Questions clients ask
How long does trademark registration in Iran take?
Timing depends on the examination workload and on whether objections or oppositions arise. We give you a realistic estimate for your application at the outset and keep you updated as it moves forward.
Do I need to be based in Iran to apply?
No. Foreign individuals and companies can register trademarks in Iran. They act through a local representative, which is the role we perform.
Can I file in more than one class?
Yes. Your application should cover every class in which you sell or plan to sell goods or services under the mark. We help you choose the classes and draft the wording.
